Háj ve Slezsku lies on the right bank of the Opava River, between Opava and Ostrava. It comprises the local parts Háj, Chabičov, Jilešovice, Lhota and Smolkov. A railway has run through the municipality since 1855; it was formerly the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway.

St Valentine's Church was built in 1911 and has been a protected cultural monument since 2015.
